That’s right; even we can’t believe it. For all those wondering what Day of the Dead is, well, it’s a 2-day celebration that takes place every November 1st and 2nd, and it is to celebrate the lives of those who have died.

Now with that being said, these 2 days are filled with A LOT of activities to take part in, and we’re here to tell you which ones you absolutely CANNOT miss.

Though there are a few activities before, this parade really kicks off the celebrations. Hundreds of staff and guests dress up as Catrinas (skeleton characters that represent the dead) and fill the walking paths, marching around the hotel showing off their extravagant and traditional clothing to the beautiful beats of a live Mexican Band.

One of the many things that brings Mexico together during this incredible celebration is the food, and because at Sandos, they want to present a full Mexican experience to its guests, food from every region will be part of this grand feast.

We recommend having an empty stomach before the dinner starts; there is a lot of food you are going to want to try, and trust us, it is ALL delicious.

Traditional Mexican Games for the Entire Family

It wouldn’t be a celebration without games, but they are not like the ones you may have played back home. These games are those of which thousands of Mexican people grew up playing. There is something for all ages, so after you fill up on the delicious food that was prepared especially for you, make sure to check them out and have a lot of fun!

If you’re going to play the part, you have to wear the part. That’s right; this face painting stand will transform you into one of our skeleton friends that we call catrinas.

Don’t worry; these skeletons aren’t scary; the artists make them very beautiful and pleasing to the eye. So, just get in line and wait to be a part of this unique event truly. (Don’t forget to take a picture and upload it using #DayoftheDead and tagging @SandosCaracol)

Parade of the Souls

You are not going to want to miss out on this. Arguably one of the most amazing activities during the entire event, history comes together in one spectacular and jaw-dropping parade full of beautiful colors, catrinas, circus acts, gigantic props, and music.

Grab a bite to eat, get your face painted like a catrina, and go a bit early to get the best spot to see the parade; you aren’t going to want to miss out on 1 second of this parade.

Candle Offering

The Day of the Dead is all about celebrating the lives of all those that we have lost. As guests and staff come together in a replica of a Mexican Cemetery, each person has the opportunity to light a candle in honor of a friend or family member they have lost as night slowly arrives.

We strongly recommend attending this empowering and spiritual activity; it’s truly unique.
